About the Chapel of Sky Valley
♱ A History of Our Church
Nestled high atop a hill in Georgia's highest elevated community stands the Chapel of Sky Valley. Her magnificent steeple overlooks a lovely valley, surrounded by the seasonal elegance of the southwestern Blue Ridge Mountains! Serving the spiritual life of residents and visitors for over four decades, this interdenominational church continues to be an important icon and influence in the Sky Valley community and abroad. It is one of the most photographed structures in the southeast region.
The Tom McClure Memorial Chapel is a year round house of worship built in 1979. Over the years it has become affectionately known as 'The Chapel of Sky Valley' or the 'Sky Valley Chapel'.
The magnificent bronze-top steeple is equipped with a digital carillon. At select times during the day, the steeple carillon can be heard across the valley ringing out familiar hymns, inspirational melodies, and seasonal favorites. Every night at 9:00 PM, 'taps' can be heard as a reminder to all in the valley of the closing of the day.
Construction of a columbarium building began in 1998 and was completed by early 2001. The columbarium and memorial garden wall provide a distinctive and peaceful resting place for loved ones who have passed on.
♱ A Church for All People
Sunday services are at 10:00 AM with Communion offered on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. All are welcome to attend our interdenominational services, and we are confident you will find familiarity in our worship experience. The liturgy is designed from a blend of protestant and Catholic traditions, the preaching emphasizes God speaking to us through Scripture, and both are complimented by music drawn from traditional hymns, contemporary songs, and gospel favorites. This unique composition makes for a meaningful worship experience for everyone and a perfect place to worship while away from one's home church - which is why the Chapel is often titled 'A Church for All People.' Past services can be viewed on our YouTube channel.
♱ Outreach Ministries
The Chapel's commitment to serve our community is not confined to our beautiful building and grounds - our commitment can be seen in our active outreach ministries. All donations designated for a
specific mission will be used for or sent to that mission.
F.A.I.T.H. - Fighting Abuse in the Home
The Chapel of Sky Valley has been and continues to be an active supporter of F.A.I.T.H. (Fight Abuse In The Home). Canned goods and dry staples are collected on the last Sunday of each month and delivered to our local F.A.I.T.H. institution. Monetary donations are encouraged every Sunday during our offering for cash disbursements. The Chapel has proudly supported this important charity with financial gifts, especially at Christmas.
F.I.N.- Friends In Need
F.I.N. (Friends in Need) is an outreach ministry developed by members of our church to aid local residents during times of hardship. It might be to help with a heating or electric bill, an auto repair, assistance with food or medical supplies. This ministry has helped many to get through some unexpected bad times. Donations for FIN are accepted during the offertory or dropped in our FIN collection box in the narthex of the church.
Pew Bears
Every Sunday our worship service is attended by several PEW bears. Large, stuffed and cuddly bears adorned with hand-tailored seasonal clothing, sit amidst the congregation. During the service, they attentively listen to our prayers, scripture readings and hymn singing - receiving all of the spiritual blessings from each service - until someone takes them to a new home! PEW Bears are meant to be taken and given to anyone who is in need of comfort. These bears have comforted hundreds of people throughout their ministry - and have traveled as far as Europe and Southeast Asia!
Richard's Kids
This local ministry provides basic needs to children in Rabun County, especially around Christmas time. Local educators identify children in need and an RK representative accompanies parents to choose items
specific to the child.
Worldwide Gospel Proclamation
Through Operation Mobilization and the Great Commission Fund, Sky Valley is able to train, send, and support missionaries around the world to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus. We have committed to supporting each of these ministries financially each year.
